Frank Dirscherl said... Wow, Chris, I feel so ignorant, I had no idea you were such a major talent, and right here on my doorstep practically! I gotta get you to do a cover for my series The Wraith, I just gotta :)
Adam said... This gallery is an awsome idea. I'd love to figure out how you set this up.
Chris Wahl said... Echo- Thanks. Alex (my son) at 2 and a half, is already showing signs of drawing and music ability. I'm sure he'll surpass his dad in no time.
Heri- Thanks. It would make a nice patchwork quilt. :D
Gord- Thanks. Can you add one more 'B' so I'm ABBA (my mum would appreciate it). Hope you liked your caricature over at Drawing Board.
Lou- Aw, thanks man.
Frank- Not your fault. I've been lying low up until I started the blog. As mentioned on a previous comment of your, I'll talk to you soon about 'The Wraith'.
Adam- Thanks. I'm not much of a tech-head, but if you look at the source text of the blog page via your web browser, you may get some idea about how I went about it. Just a lot of trial and error. I basically stripped it back to the bare essentials. As far as the pics go, they are all part of one blog entry which I keep adding to.
FZ said... Chris I've been much inspired by your blog(s) and have been working on mine as well.
Thank you very much and Blogspot and 'View Source'.

Chris Wahl said... freydaddy- Thanks Mark! I use Photoshop for most of my work- digital colouring, digital inking and image editing, I use Painter Classic for my more painterly pieces, and for 3D work I use Zbrush and Cinema4D
Anonymous said... oh wow, that velma is the sex

I absolutely love your creativeness! I really admire your work, it is amazing! I came across your website and was shocked to see the quality of work you produce...truly breathtaking! Keep up the great work! I am truly inspired.
I really enjoyed viewing your work. Truly inspiring. Whenever Im in a creative block or slump I love to view your work. You are very talented. I really feelin the new design of your blog. How do you accomplish this?
Regarding the design of my (gallery?) blog- The Gallery index is a separate blog to the main gallery. It's just one post with all the dates etc removed, and with the banner links to the different sections (all separate posts) for the main Gallery blog.
Rather than explain all the technical info (which I'm not too familiar with), just press 'View Source' on your web browser to show all the scripting for a particular page
Wow, just FANTASTIC work....my stuff has been very stiff lately, it's so cool to see someone with some really kinetic caricatures..thanks for the inspiration!
bible artist- While I'm familiar and admiring of both Wally and Norman's work, I can't say they're a direct influence. Although, I was pleasantly surprised when my MAD superman cover ended up with that nice Rockwell vibe.
When it comes to inking I don't use either brushes or dip pins. Most of my life I've used just cheap felt tip pens, but recently I've been getting into the brush pens, particularly a Faber Castell PITT pen with a fantastic little brush nib.
Thanks man....and I just realized that my archives weren't available in my blog...so I only had 2 pieces of art showing...D'oh! But thanks for the kind words...I have to get movin' on some new art....
WOW!!!!! Your an amazing artist. Over the past year I have started college and just can't find the time to draw anymore but your artwork inspires me to make time. Keep up the amazing work.
Hi, Chris, your artworks is absolutely Awesome and your art on Caricature i think is the most powerful skill of you, i love your art on this area. Thanks for sharing and Keep up the great work, Man!
I saw your Chewie at the Animation Art gallerie in Chicago, couldn't resist and bought 1/25. Thank you so much for this piece!!!! It is truely stunning and has really brought new life to my living room wall. But Chewie is very lonely may need some company--any plans for more Star Wars related work?
Chris -- I've been known to obsess about Yoda, Leia in the slave costume would be great too or R2-D2 and C-3PO together. But PLEASE don't listen to me and PLEASE trust your artist instinct. I never thought I would buy an artist rendition of Chewie. So, PLEASE just surprise us!!!
Chris -- I'm sorry my ideas weren't a little more innovative, but here's the thing: I've been to many Star Wars conventions in Europe and the USA and can tell you the Yoda, Leia, R2, C-3PO, Darth Vader and Boba Fett are always the biggest sellers--especially to that generation that grew up with the original trilogy like me. The new fans of Star Wars would probably also add Darth Maul and some of the other new characters to the list. As you can see Chewie, at least in my opinion, is not part of that list. But what makes your Chewie unique is that 1. It is the first artist rendition of Chewie I have ever seen and 2. you actually painted him as the great Wookie warrior that he is and not the cute walking carpet that most people perceive him to be. That's why I say, don't listen to me and trust your instincts. Ok, that's it from me. The next time you'll see something from me is when you either have a new Star Wars piece (or any other new piece that I like) or I find out that you'll be in Chicago.
Good grief. Another astonishingly good artist. Wow. My notion that everything is devolving to shit is being shaken by repeatedly discovering artists whose work is gorgeous and technically above reproach.
Love the Dredd pictures here. Shame there's not more of them but I shouldn't be greedy. Especially like the uniform. A friend of mine likes drawing Dredd but HATES that uniform.
Like I said, be great to see you try some other 2000AD characters.
Or now that I think about it have you ever tried any of the Watchmen characters. Be interesting with the film coming out.
You are really a great illustrator Chris! i love all your works..even you have a very nice well arrangement blogs here..i like designing too..i got some idea when i viewed your blog here..great Chris Wahl!!
What's the story behind the Easter Bunny with the demented rabbit henchmen? She's a fabulous piece (comics, color, 1st row) but is she original or a comic character somewhere?
David R-G- it was done for a Hidden Easter Egg Hunt promotion on my blog years ago. Finding the golden egg led to a secret blog with new art. She's an original character just created for the Easter artwork and hasn't been used anywhere else since.

Hey Chris
Your work is incredible! You must be a busy man.
Can I see some Wally Wood and Norman Rockwell influences?
When you're inking, do you use a brush or dip pen?
Only answer if you have time.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi, Chris, your artworks is absolutely Awesome and your art on Caricature i think is the most powerful skill of you, i love your art on this area. Thanks for sharing and Keep up the great work, Man!
anonymous, thoriq- Thankyou both for your generous comments.
I think "Thing" is awesome! Do you sell your art anywhere? I have to have that picture on my wall!
anonymous- Thanks, that's always been a fave of mine as well.
Given thet The Thing is a licensed Marvel character I'm not able to sell prints or anything, but I'll try making it into a desktop wallpaper.
Chris - thanks for letting me know on the Thing. Can you not sell originals?
anon- The Thing picture is 100% digital so unfortunately there is no original.
I saw your Chewie at the Animation Art gallerie in Chicago, couldn't resist and bought 1/25. Thank you so much for this piece!!!! It is truely stunning and has really brought new life to my living room wall. But Chewie is very lonely may need some company--any plans for more Star Wars related work?
christoph- Wow, glad you like the piece.
They've asked me to produce a series of Star Wars pics to follow on from Chewie. So I'll keep you posted. Any character requests?
Chris -- I've been known to obsess about Yoda, Leia in the slave costume would be great too or R2-D2 and C-3PO together. But PLEASE don't listen to me and PLEASE trust your artist instinct. I never thought I would buy an artist rendition of Chewie. So, PLEASE just surprise us!!!
christoph- Okay, so a surprise it is then.
But thanks for the great suggestions.

Ok, that's it from me. The next time you'll see something from me is when you either have a new Star Wars piece (or any other new piece that I like) or I find out that you'll be in Chicago.
Christoph- Thanks for the great feedback and insider information. I'll keep all your advice in mind for the next piece.
Good grief. Another astonishingly good artist. Wow. My notion that everything is devolving to shit is being shaken by repeatedly discovering artists whose work is gorgeous and technically above reproach.
Your work is a joy to behold, sir. Fantastic.
Thanks Bob.
Your work was quite a gem of a discovery for me too.
